1937 Memphis. Overton Park. A socially prominent young man and a working class woman are involved in a car wreck. The events that follow form the basis of author Peter Taylor’s subtle, penetrating portrait of the class divisions, gender roles, and social mores of this city This is the first public screening of a new HD digitization of the award-winning1984 film, made by University of Memphis film faculty long before there was an independent film community here. It was shown at many film festivals in The United States and Europe, broadcast nationwide in prime time on The Arts and Entertainment Network, and has became part of the curriculum of countless American Literature courses throughout the country.
